AIM announces new leadership to drive innovation, competitiveness, and sustainability in Europe’s consumer goods sector
Brussels, 11 October 2024 – AIM, the European Brands Association, is pleased to announce the appointment of Silviu Popovici as President of the AIM Board and Birgit Rechberger-Krammer as Vice President. Their appointments mark the beginning of a new chapter for AIM just as the new 2024-2029 EU Mandate starts. With a focus on fostering innovation, competitiveness, and sustainability, the newly elected leadership is set to guide AIM in its continued representation of the branded consumer goods sector.
Silviu Popovici, CEO of PepsiCo Europe, has a track record in leading major global brands through periods of transformation and growth. “I am pleased to step into this role at a time when Europe’s competitiveness is so high on the agenda, as it is fundamental to driving innovation and growth. As we enter this new EU mandate, it’s essential that we work closely with policymakers to create the right conditions for businesses to thrive, enabling investment in areas like sustainability, digital transformation, and circular economy initiatives. AIM will advocate for policies that strengthen Europe in these areas.” said Popovici.
Birgit Rechberger-Krammer, Corporate Senior VP Henkel Consumer Brands Europe, joins as Vice President. With her extensive background in consumer brands, sustainability and Eastern Europe markets she commented: “I look forward to continuing our industry’s leadership in serving consumers, whose trust is the foundation of our success. Protecting their interests while fostering fairness, inclusiveness, and sustainability is essential. In today’s rapidly changing environment, we must innovate and grow as responsible stewards of society and the environment, working with all to build a more resilient, sustainable future.” said Rechberger-Krammer.
Michelle Gibbons, AIM’s Director General, welcomed the new leadership: “We are delighted to have Silviu and Birgit take on these roles. Their combined expertise will help guide AIM’s work with stakeholders across the value-chain as collaboration is key to re-booting Europe’s competitiveness. Our brands are found in households across Europe, and as the third-largest manufacturing sector, the consumer goods industry plays a vital role in enhancing the competitiveness and resilience of the European economy.”
The new leadership team will prioritise the goals outlined in AIM’s 2024-2029 manifesto, which include enhancing the competitiveness of Europe through a fully functioning Single Market, strengthening intellectual property rights, and supporting fair, resilient supply chains.
